what exhaust to use?

I'm ready for exhaust on my freshly built '65 and wondering if anyone makes a direct fit kit. It's got a 351w, JBA shorty headers, t-5 trans, Currie 9', and the GT rear valance with the exhaust holes. If not, should I go with Flowmaster, Borla, etc.... I'm not afraid of it being to loud- as a Harley rider 'loud pipes save lives', right? :0p Any suggestions??

I went with magnaflow 2.5" stainless for mine. I havent installed it yet but looks like a nice system. I got it from Cj pony parts when it was on sale last year. They have it listed for $586 right now but they always have sales that if you spend $500 you get a $150 dollar gift card for there and it's free shipping.

I hate to be a broken record, cause I keep saying this. I got the magna flow system and it fits very poorly (on my 69' at least). It was expensive to buy and expensive to have installed (it is NOT a direct fit system). I could have saved a lot of money and ended up with a nicer system if I had just got a system custom made.

I bought the aluminized stock system with H pipe and turbo mufflers off of ebay. Shipped to my door was around 200. I put it on this weekend and was very impressed! Everything fit very tight and neat. All curves were perfect. Looks totaly like a custom system. I plan on taking it to a muffler shop and having them replace all the clamps with welds just to finish it off. I installed the enitre system with the car lifted up on jacks in about 2 hours. Very impressed.

I restored a 66 kcode coupe and in 40 years of hot rods I have yet to see a "bolt on kit" that is truly bolt on. All take some modification, some more than others. Current ride is 2.5 inch system that is tucked up out of the way and works good, but its definitely not a "bolt on kit"! Rather than fight it I would find a exhaust shop you like and listen to them-they do this all the time and quite frankly, could actually end up saving you money, if you consider the time you spend as dollars.

Guess I just got lucky, but the "bolt-on" system I recieved was a perfect, custom bent, bolt on that required no modifications, fit perfect, and is tucked up nice under the car. I will take pics of it tonight to post. Still cannot believe how nice it all fit and how tucked in it all looks. Super easy install on my back under the car. I will also go back and see where I got the kit and let folks know.

Congratulations!

I am very pleased that your experience was so smooth. As my car included the Hipo cast iron exhaust manifolds, it was a little different as I wanted it to appear as stock as possible-I am impressed that it worked so smoothly!

I bought a set of the 'GT' trumpets that have a larger than stock inlet (2 1/4 I think). My fear as far as the bolt on kits is that the different engine/trans combo will have clearance issues. After hearing all the advice I'm leaning towards a custom shop install. I guess that way if there are any issues- they'd own it, right?
