I am looking to find the best mechanical automobile anti-theft device for my Mach 1 and I would appreciate everyones experience and suggestions. One person I spoke with recommended the "Unbrakeable AutoLock Pro". Has anyone used it?
Thanks,
Wayne

Have you seen that commerical where the guy has a nice NEW car and puts that car cover over it that makes it look like a piece of crap that is about to fall apart. Try that. If that doesn't work just take out the rotor in the distributor when you park it and put it in your pocket. The thugs will never be able to start it with out. ::

I can offer some basic ideas...

1. removable steering wheel (Grant even makes one that is street legal).
2. hidden fuel lock... cuts fuel from getting to motor.
3. hidden battery kill switch... should be pretty good especially if you mount the battery in the trunk.
4. hidden line lock... can't imagine anyone wanting to try to drive a car they can't get the wheels to turn.

Other than that, consider a hidden ignition kill switch.

I have the Grant system. I have always believed that if they can get past the alarm (when I install it ::), they can't drive the car without the steering wheel. It would also be a pain in the a** to load it on a skid when you can't control the wheels. ::

The ignition cut outs can be defeated with a 2 ft section of wire and a screw driver. I won't get into how.
I think that one of the things that helps me locally the most is that I'm into guns and people know how much I like my car.

whenever i park my car somewhere at risk (although my car isn't worth much, dollar wise), i losen the coil wire, take off the clip on the shifter cable i have on my after market shifter so putting into gear will require some attention, as well as a starter kill switch and ignition kill switch, along with a big switch for the battery, and don't forget about locking the doors. also looking to put in a fuel cut off sometime soon. all simple stuff and easy to do, but i know it'll take someone really desperate to wanna steal my car to figure out all the little stuff, or they could just tow it away...

Missing coil wires or rotors never stopped anyone. Its an old idea so they carried spares.
Learn the firing order. when you park it reverse the order on at the dist. cap.15426378 becomes 87362451. They will never expect that.

I use a combination of devices (in addition to a lockable garage). T-Lock which is a relatively simple device and doesn't detract from the interior, and a fuel shut off solenoid with secreted switch. The solenoid is normally closed (N/C) so it needs power to hold it open. Sure the thief can probably drive a couple hundred metres but that's where it ends. He'd have to be pretty bloody organized to figure out why the damn thing don't go no more ;) I favour the T-Lock when I'm making a short stop, say a few minutes, as it is so convenient.

I use a gorilla lock (J.C. Whitney ZX507111X) steering wheel lock with audible alarm. The best part about it, is the lock has a motion sensor built into it and you can't sit inside the car when the alarm goes off. As a matter of fact it scared the piss out of a littel boy in the Grocery store parking lot one day. Literally. Guess that's what he gets for leaning on my car. Of course you could always get a deaf thief, but it would be near impossible for someone with normal hearing to sit in the car listening to that thing ring at 130 db while trying to get the steering wheel off. According to a physics web site a rock concert is 110 db and 130 db is listed as the "Threshold of Pain". Needless to say I'm happy with it. I also have an ignition cut off and a garage door.

The best in my mind is the one which will make the theif feel he got away with it, then put him in a pickle on a public road...the gas line shut off. It can be hidden, it will allow the car to start, go a block or two, then die in the middle of a road where a thief WILL NOT want to try and trouble shoot it. On the other hand, if they want your car, there is no way to stop them, any can be flat bedded.

To answer your original question: I use the Unbrakeable Autolock on my 67 GT350 and my 73 vert. Very easy to use, which is important because SWMBO won't use an antitheft system if it's a PITA (she can't even open the hood on the 73 vert - too heavy). What I like about the Autolock is that if someone is trying to defeat it they will have the door open, their head under the dash, and their A$$ in the air just waiting for me to come along with my size 12s.

You can get then on eBay for about $50.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Whisperer's "T-lock" - it's easy and very effective (unless the thief is a vintage mustang enthusiast, which I doubt)
