Looking over my pile of American Made Hand Tools (no imports listed below), I have Craftsman (replace at Sears, easy). What about the following? I emailed Snap-on, and got no response. Any ideas on the others:

Snap-On
MAc
Proto
Huskey (Home Depot?)
Challanger
John Deere
Lectrolite
S K
Bonnily
Master Mechanic
Thornsen
Stanley
VLCNEK
Indestro
Williams

Anybody else know of others that have warrantees?

snapon
mac
matco
find a truck normally at garages
sk bonney proto are auto store brands

I believe Huskey does, i would imagine you go to home depot to replace them. snap-off, mac, and the other expensive tools i believe are guaranteed, but you have to find the snap-off guy or mac guy to get them exchanged.
imo, just stick with craftsman. like AJ foyt says, "i know where to take them back, because i know where they come from" (yes, i know that is improper english)

snap on are warrantied against breakage for life, not wear.had a socket 1 time it had wore out snap on guy said he couldn't replace it unless it was broke. he took from me went over to the 20 ton press we had,put the socket under it and crushed it!!!! looked at me and said 'uh i guess it's broke'.great tools but they cost about 3 times what craftsman does and you have to chase down a truck to get them replaced.go with sears or s-k is pretty good also.

I have researched this subject some, and I have noticed in a couple of places that Kobalt wrenches are rated as some of the best - They are manufactured by a division of Snap On (J. H. Williams) and guaranteed for life. Sales and replacement are now through Lowe's Home Improvement Stores. They have an extra surface on their combination wrenches for better grip on nuts and bolts. You can see at
www.kobalttools.com
I think for the money they may be hard to beat.

The SK and Snap On, and Husky (Home Depot) are also consistently rated well, Craftsman is around 9th or 10th.

the Kobalt tools are reasonable priced - I recently bought a set of 5 SAE double boxed end wrenches for around $40. A New set of comparable Snap On wrenches were about $150, Craftsman (not fully polished) are about $40.

It all probably depends on how much work you do with your tools - most of us with one or two days a week working on our cars (hobby) may never break anything, but if you use the tools 40 hours a week and your livelyhood depends on them, you may want a better (read more expensive) set.

Thorsen is sold at Advance Auto. I think I saw them somewhere else, but I can't remember. Just take the broken tool into the store and they'll replace it. I've only had experience with a large Torx driver, though.

I think the older Craftsman tools are really good - I just don't think the quality is there on the new ones - I have some and have been looking for alternatives - especially for the price, and having to deal with Sears.
