Windlace driving me bonkers!

I foolishly replaced the windlace last year on my 65' Light blue interior without taking any photos of the originals.

While the original stuff was trashed and dirty as heck, it was not even remotely close to the color of the stuff I bought. It drove me crazy so I ordered the TMI light blue from CJ and it's more of a medium/bright blue and really sticks out (matches the stuff I bought locally).

As I'm putting the interior back together, I'd really like to get something that is a closer match.. Pay no attention to the aqua carpet and dark blue kick panels, they've been replaced with the proper colours and trim!

Are you talking about Windlace or Kick Panel carpeting here??? Confused by your post.

)

The windlace! That was just the only photo I had handy of it and wanted to assure everyone that the dark blue fully carpeted (wrongly) kick panel had been replaced with the proper one.

I'll check with classic industries. I'm sure if they had it, someone else might too.

Also a warning to anybody with the light blue that the TMI stuff is wrong.

I know exactly what you're talking about concerning the windlace. Ran into the same issue a couple months ago. All I could find from most vendors was the "light blue", which was really medium blue. I finally found the correct stuff at California Mustang. It's a much lighter blue than what the other vendors are carrying. It took about a month to get it, as they were out of stock when I ordered it.

The possible bad news is that California Mustang was sold to another aftermarket company. I can't remember their name right now. Classic something? Anyway, I think it's the correct color you are looking for.

By the way, As of Last month, California Mustang no longer exists. It was completely bought out by "Classic Industries" of GM fame last month...

Classic Industries should still have California Mustang's remaining inventory.. Give them a call or visit their website..

Classic Industries may have bought California Mustang some time ago. I clearly remember getting a "Fall Sale" postcard from Cal Mustang last October and it had both CM's and CI's logos on it.
It's possible they just hadn't changed the name or made the big announcement yet.

It's also possible Classic Industries has owned Cal Mustang for a very long time and just recently decided to stamp their name on the door.

My original windlace was nasty and dirty so I painted it with the vinyl paint from NPD (SEM maybe?)

If you can't find the color you're looking for maybe you could do the same and just paint your new windlace to make it the right color. Obviously it'd be nice to have the correct color to start with, but if you can't find it then painting it might be an option.

I ordered the light blue windlace from NPD, CJ Pony and TMI. It all came out the same color which looks the same as your photo at the top of the thread. It is more of a bright aqua color then a light blue.

OK, I hope I'm not confused, or confusing others, but....

The correct light-blue windlace for a 1965 Pony Interior is easy stuff to find, not obscure whatsoever. Scott Drake supplies it, we carry it (hundreds of feet in-stock), it is NPD # 02600-1C, and it is the correct light blue in the correct "weave" texture.

The TMI windlace in the first post is not only the wrong color for the interior, it's the incorrect texture. It's more of a generic windlace, which we also carry (cheaper alternative).

The reason it seems obscure is all the vendors are calling the windlace light blue, no matter which one it really is. California Mustang, at the time, was the only vendor listing it as different than the others. With the above mentioned comment about digital media, and hard to see color print catalogs, I ended up ordering the wrong windlace 3 times from 3 vendors.
I think the color you want from Classic Industries is T5 blue.

This reminds me of my attempts at trying to find the right color touch up paint for my 79 F150 truck. I have ordered 4 different ones and got 4 different colors all with the same color code.

I honestly think that my competitors (i.e. "other suppliers") are causing all this confusion, because there's really nothing confusing at all regarding buying good windlace with a close color-match.

First off, ever since Drake came out with the correct woven-texture windlace, THAT'S what you want.. Period. Pay the extra .50-.75 cents per-foot, and buy the Drake stuff. Sure, I wish that the texture was more-pronounced like original, but at least it's in the ballpark.

Anything else, no matter where you buy it (including us, we sell the cheaper generic windlace as a budget-alternative to the Drake offerings), is just generic trim-shop/industrial windlace. The colors, and what they call the colors, are arbitrary and generic, and have NOTHING to do with 1960's Ford interior colors. Not to mention, the grain is totally wrong.

The Drake windlace comes in two distinctly different blues, light blue and medium blue, they are labeled/described accordingly, and they're both reasonably-decent matches to the original colors. I did another photo here showing the light and medium next to each other.

I went on the Classic website, and what they are selling is the generic trim-shop stuff. They may have a silvery/light blue that's a decent match to the Ford 65-69 light blue, but it's not the Drake woven-texture stuff that you'd want to have.

I know that in recent years Drake has taken some considerable heat on this forum for various products, but in this case, they've really come to our rescue with the improved windlace availability.

Rick, it absolutely is your competitors that caused the confusion, along with NPD in some part.

I stated earlier that I ordered the same wrong windlace from 3 different vendors, all advertised as lt blue. All were wrong. I know when I researched it, NPD was included. I've ordered quite a bit from NPD and the service is great. Here's where the confusion comes in: After ordering twice and gotten what I didn't want, on page 50 of the 2017 NPD Mustang catalog, is a 1/3 page advertising windlace. No color samples were included, so I could only conclude that it would be wrong as well. Now, in the 2018 catalog, page 50, the same 1/3rd page shows color samples, which would have cleared everything up. Unfortunately, I didn't have a 2018 catalog at the time, and some other vendors were showing pictures of light blue windlace, but the product was medium blue. I also asked numerous times on this forum and got no responses.

I want to say again, that page 50 of the NPD catalog gives what appears to be correct color samples of the Scott Drake windlace, but with no reference to Scott Drake in the ad. So posting that the Scott Drake windlace is the most correct, the catalog might want to mention that instead of concours. See where it gets confusing? I understand we should all know that, but some of us don't. As an aside, CJ's is also now showing the Scott Drake windlace on their website with color samples, which they also didn't have last year.

Rick, please take this as negative. I've been very satisfied with my orders from NPD, love the catalog (not so much the website), and am thankful for your responses on the forum!
