1967 S-code coupe: keep it original or make a GT clone?

A 1967 S-code coupe with a 4 speed and original drivetrain currently in project status; Should it be kept original or add on the GT options.

This would probably be a good candidate to make it a GT clone since it has the 390 and 4 speed but maybe it could be better to keep it original and 'low key" What do you guys/gals think/

Car has no disc brakes or p/s..

I'm pretty tired of seeing all the "converted" GTs at shows. I think it's much more interesting to see an original sleeper car, like your S code, in standard trim. Just my opinion, FWIW...

Good luck,

I agree with the previous posters. Some mustangs are cool enough without adding doodads. This sounds like one of them. I had a bench seat Fairlane 500 hardtop that came w/a 390 as well...i liked it better than the fairlane gt's. Somebody had a question like this a few weeks ago concerning a '70 sportsroof w/a 351C 4V and a 4 spd...which I wouldn't turn into a mach 1.

Cheers,

Joseph

I say add the fog lights because they look cool and were put on anything as an option. I'd also do the dual exhaust valance.

Ditto. For appearance and safety: PDB is a must these days. Strongly encourage the duals with valance (counter productive NOT to have duals on a 390, and if you do, it'd be silly IMHO to not have the sharp looking valence cutouts). Foglites look good, but are not as necessary as the other mods.

Short of giving it to me, I'd say brakes, fog lights, and the rear valance as well....it just looks good. What else would be involved to "convert" to a GT? I'm not up on anything later than 66 at this point. Whatever you end up doing, it's a really cool car so unless you do something like the yellow one that was on ebay, you'll be in good shape :p

I also vote against GT clone. There are plenty of those around these days. Factory sleepers are just as cool, in a different way.

I agree that you should add disc brakes, however I really see no need for them to be power.

The cosmetic aspects of a GT are pretty much the stripes, fender emblems and the grille.

It's your car, do what you want. IMO the value of the car will stay about the same.

It's your car do what you like! I would keep it original if it was mine. I really
like factory sleepers, plain Jane with the big engine. Seems like bright red
clones or modifieds are "the way to go". :(

I agree completely with converting to front disc brakes. Never had a Mustang
with drum fronts. Did own a like new '70 Maverick with drum fronts. An emergency
stop from 60 was an adventure!

yea depending out what I would or in this case you would have todo to make it a solid foundation. If it required quite a bit of sheet metel and body work I would make it what I wanted it to be. If it was in nice shape required very little work to make a nice original car, then I would go that route. Of course as my body work gets better this could change.
