rear end tore apart, naturally parts stores didnt have gasket and seals. So ive ordered them and will upgrade my rear chunk from 280 to 325 so she gonna have a lil more pep. By hwy mpg lol....
I'm playing around with the idea of changing from 280 to 325 as well. Currently have a 3 speed but will upgrade to a T5 with 370 in 4 yrs. Would love to hear what you think of the 325...not sure if I should wait and enjoy the cruising as it is or get a little pep...
Hoping you haven't bought the gears yet! At MINIMUM go with a 3.55 as the 3.25 isn't much of a jump.

The difference in performance between a 2.80 and 3.55 is MUCH more fun, the difference in gas mileage between a 3.25 and a 3.55 is not much at all :)

I had 3.55's and actually went to a 3.70 with my FOUR speed. Long trips on the highway are no problem.

I actually bought a whole chunk a year or so ago for like $200 for the 3.25 because i had a pinion leak and knew id want a change but also wanted to keep this build a little mild. I'm going to try to get a FB this year and it will be more "FUN"

installed the rear chunk and torqued to 30lbs. Pushed the axels in a made sure everything fit right and turned.

I was going to put the whole rear back together but i decided the drums were old and rusty and needed replaced so since i had everything taken a part i ordered a rear disc conversion for toms classics. 11 discs and was rather cheap. So ill install those when they get here and continue to reassemble the rear.

also installed a new shifter and lever

Got my auto city classics (Tomsclassics on ebay) rear disc kit installed...It was $250 and had a few gotchas. 1st you have to drill the rotors to fit flush for the countersink. Also it doesnt mention where to put the connector for the brake lines.

Still have to bleed the lines. Did of course fill the rear with 2.5 quarts gear oil.

our 67

Hello JR

My wife and myself just picked up a '67 Mustang coupe-289/auto 2bbl this car is a time capsule. All original drive train-drums all around:frown2: original interior and she runs pretty good and factory a/c which still works!! You mentioned changing brakes....I want to change out the drums to four wheel disc-safety issue. Maybe change rear gear to something more sporty-better performance if you follow me. The exhaust also would like to install a true dual exhaust as the rear valance has the cut outs for dual exhaust. And yes she needs detailing as it's evident she has been sitting awhile. I'm with you on just a nice street cruiser as since it's all original don't want to touch engine. Let me know what you did and where you sourced parts to replace brakes. I have a few pics of Mustang Molly. The previous owner named her Molly.

Congrats on picking up Molly. There are alot of choices for your breaks but it also depends on which transmission. I went with a Chockostang kit which retained the original style front brakes as if it came with the car. CSRP has a great selection of disc kits with new power master if you have a auto trans. If you are going with a rear disc kit you also can have him remove the residual valve on the rear of the master. On another hand Mustang Steve has great kits for adding Cobra brakes and so on but generally will require bigger wheels with them as well. I believe i swap in a 3:00 gear which made an improvement but i would of probably upgraded to 3:25 to get a little more sporty with it yet still have hwy availability. As far as rear disc kits i ended up buying an ebay kit and wasnt all that happy with it as it used Caddilac and Pontiac parts. I actually had to drill out the rotors to fit the hub properly. I know Cjponyparts carries kits but you may find some other kits as well.

Jeff,

Didn't you jump ship on this car for the FB conversion, or did you have three?
