Out of curiosity, does anyone know WHY no one makes an aftermarket center ac vents for a 70 Mustang ????? Is there a reason ?

There is a lot more to the center vent than just a hole. The dash pad and other stuff under it needs to be changed. It's real integral "factory" air conditioning starting in 1969. The controls are mounted on a different bracket in a different place. I imagine a kit would cost around $2000.

I think the OP is referring to the center A/C outlet register. Those are not reproduced for the 69-70 Mustangs. Originals go for big money. I had one that came in a box of parts I bought 15 years ago. I sold it last year for $400.

Cougar registers are a little different but it says they will fit; Center A/C Register Bezel - Grade B - Used ~ 1969 - 1970 Mercury Cougar Grade A is out of stock. I thought you were looking for a complete changeover.
Dimensionally they're different. They're close, but not quite. The front bezel is 6 1/2" on the Mustang, where it's 6 13/16" on the Cougar. The main body on the Mustang vent is 5 15/16"w x 2 3/16" h x 1 3/4" d. The same for the Cougar is 6 1/4" w x 2 1/16" h x 1 7/8" d. Also, the Mustang vent has a curve to it, while the Cougar vent is flat. I bought the Cougar vent thinking the same they were interchangeable. I bought the center adapter from Vintage Air as if I were buying for a car with factory air, but the center connection to the factory vent was too small for the Cougar vent. I ended up buying a Mustang vent.

Here are some pictures showing the differences in size. The simpler vent is the Mustang vent. The lower dash is identical though.

Not all parts are reproduced. In the case of that particular part its probably because the vent itself would have to be CNC machined from billet...or possibly sand-cast. CNC is expensive...I doubt sand-casting is, but I dont see it being ideal for high volume runs ...add in a very low volume of potential sales and therefore not worth the money to reproduce. Its a complex barrel shape if I remember correctly?

I thought of that angle, but I'm sure you have seen the extent of the parts available for 69/70s. It sure looks like there are plenty of parts that don't sell in big quantities, but that's just a guess.

Doug did the $400 sale of your vent register include the mounting hardware? Ingenious design, but WCCC wants $120 for 4 small pieces, yikes.

Luckily I was able to locate a nice register for under $100 a couple of years ago when I added AC.
