Everybody's right! Because everybody's given their opinion. So here's mine...

I like the FE so I say go with a 390-428 stroker which has a displacement of somewhere between 445 and 465 (or higher) dependent upon block. The long arm of the stroker crank makes the torque which makes the power. Sure, pound for pound or CI for CI the Windsor is less expensive to build for power, but imagine that you are opening your hood for all to see. The WOW factor of the big block is hard to beat! My vote, FE power. BTW, I can change the plugs in my FE in 20 minutes. With the electronic ignitions that we run plugs are typically good forever...

Hi, I recently purchased a 69 Fastback. 63A code car. It has a 351W in it now but I was hoping to upgrade to big block. What is the largest engine I could place without alterations? Example altering shock towers etc. I want to make it a Boss 429 clone but I’m realizing the 429 would require significant alterations including battery in the trunk and so forth. I would like to get it over 500hp and 500 lb torque. 390? Thanks

I just don’t want to spend an extra few thousand to have the shock towers modified,
All 67-70 Mustang shock towers were the same dimensions, although some of the later ones were reinforced. The only exception was the 69-70 BOSS 429, which had unique towers, export brace, extra struts, and modified upper arms to fit the massive NASCAR engine.

With conversion mounts, and special headers, the 460 Lima engine basically bolts in.

sir, this is what is great about hot rodding... do your own research. figure out what you want and your wallet can afford. it is far from being all about engine.. there are a lot of other variables to consider. we have cooling, we have braking, we have suspension, we have gearing, we have drive train as in transmission.....

strip car? drift car? cruiser? road rally? parking lot parker? what are you thinking you wish to do MOST of with your car?

as for engine, i have various cars and engines..... and my big block chevy is only 460 inches and due to the fact that a few cars can not hook up, crappy physics as in wrong roll out, gearing,etc... the cars are dogs...

first what do you really want to do within your financial realm? you will get a lot of advise on these websites but do your own homework and get out a pen and paper... it's the whole build

Bored and stroked FE engine. Over 500 CID. Fits without any engine bay modifications. FE 390 and 428 were both factory options. Exhaust can be interesting. I would reinforce the shock towers. 3-two barrel carbs would look awesome!
