I recently purchased a 65 K code / Hi Po 2+2. The car is an unmodified 55000 mile survivor. I plan to drive it, have fun and show it. I plan to change the fluids, spark plugs, maybe the plug wires and cap. Probably upgrade to Pertronix ignition. What Pentronix unit I or II? I want to use synthetic base lubricants throughout. What is recommended for the engine oil, transmission and differential lube, coolant, brake fluid and power steering? Yep, I have a Hi Po with power steering. What spark plugs are recommended? Performance over concours. Plug wire & cap?

Congrats on your purchase and a k code at that! Please post some pics! I think that the power steering was added some where in its history. I have had a few through the years and they were all great looking and nice performers!

Honestly, if the motor has not been recently rebuilt, I would go with a good 30 weight motor oil or what Ford originally recommended. Type F for the power steering fluid. That is what I use in my GT 500 PS pump. With my 289 hipo's, I used the original dual point set-up and had good luck with them. However, with the solid lifter 427 in my Shelby, I had to switch to Pertronix as it kept burning points. I can't answer your other questions as I typically used Ford replacement parts over performance including cap, wires, spark plugs etc. Beautiful car!

Can't go wrong with genuine Ford / Motorcraft parts made in USA, but for a survivor car, I would carefully consider before I changed ANYTHING and only used NOS or great original parts where I could find them and afford them, then only the best quality reproduction parts as needed, on a part by part choice basis as no one single supplier makes the very best of everything.

Why PerTronix?

What he said. Do a search on Pertronix in the forum, you will see a lot of discussion on use of it....some good...some bad. I had the full Pertronix setup (distributor with ignitor 2 and coil) in my 66FB. First one lasted 8 or 9 months, replacement module lasted 10 days. Went back to points, runs just as well. Keep it original, that car deserves it.

Keep it original as much as possible. If you've got the dual point setup in the distributor, just keep it that way. I had one for years in my C-code 289 and never had an issue with it. For the transmission, you'll need GL4 lubricant in it - not a synthetic. Again, I have a Toploader in mine and that's all I will run in it. Why do you think you have a 55K mile unmolested original? Because it's original, that's why. :)
