Howdy All,

I am a refugee from another popular Mustang forum. I decided to switch camps.

I am looking to turn my current 351w into a 383 stroker. I have not been able to find many kits available,
since the bigger stroker kits seem more popular. Anyone here done a 383?

Thanks

Speedomotive makes a 383 w kit

I used Speedomotive for my 408c build up and all thought they are not the cheapest place around, there parts are top notch. Everything bolted right together in my block with no problems in fit or quality from any of the parts they provided. I recommned them to anyone looking to garage build a stroker. I sent my block out had some very simple prep work done (bore and hone) and everything else was accounted for in the kit.

dodgestang: The Speedmotive kit is one of the few that I have found. I am glad to hear you had good
experience with them. I guess they move to the top of my list for now.

Thanks

go to google. do a search for 393 windsor strokers. youll come up with some places. id get the url for ya but im at work and i dont have them at hand. but there are many different places that do this, and why do you want the 383?? why not go bigger, its just as easy and costs the same price. no replacement for displacement man. ill get them for you later when at home on my own puter. i was gonna do the 393 but i didnt have hte money and i didnt want to risk running better then 11.99's b/c i drag my car and i am NOT going to put a cage in my car. but i think something very simliar to my set up with AFR heads and a 393/408 would create some serious HP numbers. one man to ask would be ART, he did the 393 and loves it for the last 3 years and he is now doing a 427.

stang6992: Thanks for offering to do the Google search, but I have already spent hours on google looking for
companies that make 351w stroker kits in general, then looking at each site trying to find the 383. That is why
I have started asking for people that already have one.

Why 383?? Well, I am not building a drag car. My 69 FB is setup for open track. Also, I figure the 383 will be a little
less hard on the cylinder walls. 392 is not out of the question, but I am not considering anything bigger.

Nice Mustang Randal, same color as mine and we both live in the same neck of the woods. The 383 stroker is not as common as the others. You might look at a 393, not much differance in the two. I have been talking with Dallas Export sales about a stroker kit. They are right there in Dallas on Shady Lane. http://www.dallasexportsales.com/ They seem to know what they are doing and can supply from kits to finished motors. Any how welcome to the forum and check out the Texas forum.

the 393 will NOT hurt your cyclinder walls if it is built right... art on this forum as the 393 like i said before, he has driven it for 3 years, and he said he drives the hell out of it... and just a few weeks ago he took it on a 900 mile long cruise and didnt add a drop of oil. to me that is very good proof that the 393 is very reliable. i have heard off hand the same about the 408 but i do not know for sure, but from what i have heard the only one that needs to be worried about is the 427 stroker and up. but the 393 will not hurt the block in any way if it is built correctly and not thrown together in 2 hours. i think the real good reason you are having so much trobble with finding the 383 is b/c very few actually do it, IMO its kinda pointless, why not just add the extra cubes while you are at it. i do not know reputations of companies but here are some of the places i looked at when i was considering it for my stang
strokerkits.com
flatlander racing
more stroker kits

hopefully this helps but in the end its what you want and need and im giving my opinions on what i would do. i also know a guy here in town that i race with running a 408 stroker in his valare, drives it to work and the out to the track every race there is, and he works 45 mins away from the track and there is a race almost ever weekend. done it for over the 2 years ive known him.

Thanks everyone for the info. Y'all may be talking me into the 393. I have a friend here in DFW that has one,
putting out 500ft/lbs of from 3000 to 5000 rpm, and he loves it. Sounds like some folks here are having good
experiences too.

Troy: I have seen the Dallas Export Website. I never heard anyone mention them. The fact that they are local
may take them out of the running, due to sales tax. I will give them another consideration. The kits at strokerKits.com
that stang6992 look pretty good too, and the price is good.

Thanks,
Randy

Art: I like your DIY suggestion. The stroker stuff is unknown territory for me, so I tend to look for matched kits so that
I don't make mistakes. With the DIY option, I already have the rods, so it would just be a crank and piston swap. Too bad
I can't use my existing pistons. I built this motor early last year, and it only has 6K miles on it. I see the question coming,
and the answer is that I spun a rod when the wife was away and I had a couple of beers. I get stupid in that situation :)

gp001 and others: the other forum shall remain nameless. Let's just say there were too many talking cookies, closets, and bronco
questions for me.

Lolita has a Speedomotive 383, though at .060 over it's a 388..
They know what they're doing and the parts are good quality -

FYI, Lo' has been running for 8 months now, beaten like a red-headed step child and has no problems at all. ::
