Few weeks ago (?) my starter bolts were loose and while starting my engine it grinded bad. Went back under and tightened them up and torqued them. Dont remember the torque number.

Ever since that it sounded like it had a light scrape whenever I started it again. Its o ly been a couple times

I was about to back up my mustang into my driveway for the first time and moved cars out of the way and my family was out i. The 100 degree temps with me to celebrate and GRIND!

Celebration over, put cars back in driveway and now I have to lift my car back up and play doctor. Im going to remove the plate covering the flexplate and I dont know what else.... damn man

Anything special to be done?
I think it's a pgm starter (or something like that)

PMGR...permamemt magnet gear reduction...often referred to as a mini-torque or high torque starter. Supposed to save space and weight. Often incorporates a solenoid on the starter, which defeats Ford's design of mounting the solenoid remotely and easily accessible for service, away from the exhaust...but whatever.
Disconnect your negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the positive leads on your starter.
Take out the two bolts holding in your starter.
Remove and replace the starter, bolts, and make clean tight connections. Enjoy.

If you find that your starter is mounted correctly, and/or if the problem persists once you remount the starter correctly, might be that you hung up the starter on the flywheel bad enough the first time that you chewed up some teeth on the ring gear.

Sounds good but nothing like fold some paper and use it as a shim or anything?

I raised up my car and it's late now. I'll remove that plate i mentioned and look for worn/chewed up teeth.

Not something I want to do but if I do have to replace the flexplate, at least ill have the trans out and it will be easier to replace the trans output bushing.... gotta stay positive :ROFLMAO:

Yay! 1200 posts :D

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I have family coming from Arizona on Monday and inwas suppose to help my brother in law with his truck in my garage.

I just need to start my car twice...... I dont want to damage my flexplate though. Are these starters sold auto parts stores also? Yeah right?

No shims on Ford starters.
The starter solenoid or bendix may be sticking.
You can take that starter in to match, but likely one from a 1990-ish with a 5.0 Mustang will work.

It's a new starter. I have only used it sto start my engine a with my car on stands and I've used about4 gallons of gas
. The starter was grinding after starting my engine a few times and bolts were very loose. I tightened them down good and it hasn't given me a issue until yesterday. I didn't try to start it again after it grinded.

Even new stuff these days is unpredictable. Try bench testing it and see if the starter sticks or lags. You can replace the part that's damaged.

Great news everybody,
I was talking with a older friend that I have at my job amd he told me about just changing out the drive.
After calling a couple autopart stores by me with no luck, I checked Amazon. The drive will be delivered today when I get home tonight :D
