Side Mirror Recommendations

Just got through reading a bunch of posts about side mirrors. Most were several years old at least. Full of good info but maybe not all up to date.
Some points:
Mirror too far forward is blocked by wing
Remote mirrors don't seem to keep settings
Some late model adaptions look pretty good and NOT out of place

I noticed the other night that my new doors are pre-drilled for mirrors. I am thinking that unless I decide pretty soon, it might be best to weld up those holes before I get too far along and drill out after I decide for sure.

Anyone got any pics or suggestions? Anything to avoid? Incidentally, it had drivers side but no passenger side originally. After a lifetime of driving vans and pickups, I am used to having and using passenger side mirrors.

I happen to be really partial to talbot mirrors. Mine were fairly inexpensive knockoffs. The real ones get pricey fast.

Love those mirrors, sucked in my breath though when I saw the price of genuine ones. With shipping, about a $1,000 for a set of mirrors! Looking at some repros now.

Mirrors

I got mine from California Pony Cars in 1992. The pass mirror is slightly convex, like newer ones, but not as drastic. It gives me a little more view on that side. In 1997, I noticed slight pitting on the driver's side and called them. They sent a new one, as the chrome should not be pitting in only 5 years. It's been there since 1997 and still looks good. They're stock mirror, not remote or other fancy styles, but they work like I want them to.

Yeah vintage ones from the period came on a lot of Fancy European stuff, I've seen them on E-types, 911's, Ferrarri's all sorts of stuff. That and the Moto-Lita wheel are the only 2 things about my car I knew would have to be part of the build. Everything else was up for debate.

I stuck mirrors that look like '69 Sport mirrors on my '67 and they suit me just fine. I say look like because mine has the cable remote for the passenger side too so there's a good chance they are MII mirrors. I bought them at a swap meet and never bothered with their DNA. I'm not the only one here who has done such a transplant and is happy with it. They don't set on the earlier doors quite right and you have to work them a bit if you want them to sit "level".

I put these on my 66. Not remote. Very basic. Exactly like the original that was on the driver side. Had to drill holes for the passenger side. They do the job and look great (for a vintage look). From cj pony parts.

These are the FACTORY Measurements Instruction Sheet for the Install of the DELUXE "Remote" Mirror Only. Passenger side install is a "mirror image".

No matter what side mirror you install on a '65-'66 , It should ALWAYS be located BEHIND the Vent window, Never in front of it. The only exception is some vintage TALBOT Mirrors which can be installed in front of the Vent Windows.... Otherwise, The Vent window (when opened) will block the mirror's view, or the mirror will block the vent window from opening.

22GT Posted the Install Template above for the smaller "Standard" Round Rotunda "Falcon" mirrors which were standard on Most '65-'66 Mustangs.

Enjoy..

There was also a Fairlane round Mirror which was also a very popular installed mirror by Ford Dealers. It is taller and is identified by a Concave leading edge. The Front outer round of the mirror also has a Circular Lip around an inch into the round of the front of the mirror. I'll see if I can find a pic of it. It was the 2nd most installed "Standard" mirror in '65-'66.
