So my 65 coupe is too far gone to save and I did some measurements and googling and my daily (2012 dodge avenger) has the save wheelbase on it is very similar like 0.9 of a inch different so would it be possible to body swap my mustang

There's a group on Facebook devoted to bodyswaps. The biggest issue is most modern cars are much wider

Man, I’m all about “when there’s a will there’s a way”. But the specifics here would even cause me some significant pause.. Even if wheel base, track width etc was perfect, you are still taking two unibody vehicles and attempting to mold them together hopefully resulting in something resembling a solid automobile…. Not only would this be challenging for a seasoned pro but a near miracle for John Doe back yard fabricator. Could it be done, sure. It’s whether or not it would be done remotely correct where it would be a safe and prudent form of transportation for any length of time. Obviously I, we, have zero knowledge of the Avengers specs and how the two would “swap”,, but just sitting here thinking about it my conclusion is you would likely end up with two piles of scrap metal prior to completing the build.. It would likely be overwhelming in regards to fabrication needs/$$$ as well as engineering issues at every turn..

Tom's refurb on YouTube has a body swapped civic 65 mustang. Took it to Carlisle, he got a lot of "love" over it.
FYI he also has a 67 that's semi original.
Funny car stuff for sure.
That is exactly where i got the idea from and if i had the space and tools it might even be a little easier because I wouldn’t have to move the fender wheel well at all

I don’t think there is anyway this will happen because the with on the pinch weld at the top of the rocker on the mustang is 5 inches smaller than the one on the avenger so there would be alot of cutting and alot of questionable structure that is left

Forget popcorn, I've moved to whiskey.

I just did more measuring and found out that the avenger on the inside of the rocker is less than 3 inches wider than the mustang so I would have to olny cut a inch and a haf so it might be possible for someone to do it if they had enough skill

There is somebody on youtube that stuffed a Honda Civic up under his 65 mustang. He is calling it the Masutangu, LOL. You can find videos of his craziness out there. If he can do a Civic I would think the Avenger could be done about the same but all you would have of the mustang is the body.

Theres another guy on the forum with a marginal toolkit and a brain about as smooth as yours (maybe smoother) and hes chopping up his Mustang so I say go for it. At very least there will be one less Avenger on the roadways..

If i do go through with this project and I would of course buy one that has already been wrecked so if i cant do all i did was take 2 different piles of junk and try to turn them into 1 pile of junk and if it doesn’t work out then all that is hurt is my wallet

So my 65 coupe is too far gone to save
None of these cars are “too far gone to be saved”. There are folks that have restored these cars with nothing more than a piece of wheel well. But if it’s resources you lack, then you’ll also lack the resources for a body swap.

That said, if you still want a project that you can drive, part out what you can (all the way down to the original sheet metal) and buy a cheap driver that needs some TLC.

Just my .02

How much for the Mustang?
I'm into rescues and I could do a mercy killing to save at least a parts car from being turned into an unrecognizable pile of scrap and a would-be front wheel drive econo-box at that.
Transfer the body to a car that has performance or collectible desirability to begin with that happens to have a poor body, and you might have something. I don't see Avengers, Camrys, Altimas and the like having a lot of collectibility or desirability in the future because they don't have any now. They are bland mass produced point A to point B transportation.

trust me this coupe isn’t worth saving its a 200 inline 6 with the 3 speed auto with so much rust that the rear driver’s side rocker moves independently of itself and both frame rails on the driver’s side are so far gone i can put my foot where the rails are supposed to be so I don’t think i can hurt this car anymore than the feild has already
