I'm sure everyone has some engine/car mods or add ons which are close to their heart. Custom built? Personalised? What is your favourite add on to your car?

For me it has to be 1 of the following 3.

1) My home made throttle linkage. Was the first modification i made after reading a how to on one of the mustang forums, and its the part i am most proud of, as it was the first "custom" piece of work i made with my own hands.

2) March Underdrive pulleys + brackets (billet) Simple, looks awesome in the engine bay

3) "Custom" Plaque I made as a tribute to my mechanic and his son who worked very hard on the car and helped me out so much.

Post up them pics/descriptions!

Now that rocks. Turbo 2.3?

Yeah I'm interested in knowing more about that 2.3!!

My engine bay project - link to lots o' pics in my signature. My wife still can't believe I ever got the car back together!

That is absolutely awesome, very innovative. (the air intake) I haven't seen that before. The mirrors are cool too.

Custom building my exhaust system and headers was fun while being a bit difficult.

Making my own cross brace out of aluminum steering tie rods turned out good and was cheaper than buying them. With the shock towers cut out I had to brace the aprons to prevent too much stress on the fiberglass fenders.

Definitely one of my favorite projects at VMF, cant wait to see her rolling!
------

There are so many hundreds of modifications, hmmm, to pick the favorites, is tough.
I'd say generally, the bodywork and the many modifications to the fiberglass and metal that I did, to make the car look like, the way it should have looked, when it left the factory, and to make it super straight. It gets noticed by the general public, even though they don't know what it is, they are looking at, that sets the car apart.

The stance. Everything that makes that car sit on the road, the way it does, fitting the huge tires, suspension, brakes, and being so low, that the guys in the modified tuners can't figure out why I'm lower than they are ;) The roof line is actually about 4-6" lower than my wife's honda civic LOL

My car is at my mechanics to tweak a couple of installation issues so no pix are available. But my favorite mods in my 3.91:1 geared ’70 428CJ (in order) are:

(1) 4R70W transmission w/ Baumann controller and electrically controlled lock-up 3500 RPM stall converter. This Ford overdrive transmission was modified with an FE bell housing and hardened internals to live behind the FE (440 CID). With the original transmission, low gears and a 3500RMP stall aftermarket converter, the car used to be a pain to drive anytime the car was not under hard acceleration. Now it’s a joy to drive anywhere and at any speed. Under normal (civilized) driving conditions, the torque converter automatically unlocks up and overdrive keeps the RPMs down. Under wide open throttle, the controller keeps the converter unlocked and keeps the transmission out of overdrive. You can even configure the controller to upshift and down-shift the tranny under various throttle positions so that it’s civil under moderate throttle but shifts at optimum race RPMs under wide open throttle. It makes manual shifting obsolete even at the track. I cannot say enough about this mod for a lower geared mustang that does not have overdrive – especially if you are using a higher stall converter.

(2) Auto Classic Air – I live in the Deep South where summers are hot and humid. The car came with a/c but this unit uses < 2HP, uses modern coolant and tied into my stock controls and vents, works great and it doesn’t leak. Without a/c, the car stayed in the garage during the hot summer months.

(3) March under-drive pulleys (just like in the O.P.). Now I need to buy one more for my p/s so they all match.

(4) Aluminum Radiator – with the motor bored 0.060 over, the car used to overheat in the summer. Now it never overheats. The radiator also looks good with the March pulleys, aluminum finned valve covers, aluminum intake and aluminum Canadian Cobra Jet heads.

(5) Heat Resistant, High Torque Mini Starter – the task of spinning a high compression big block under the high heat conditions near headers was too much for stock starters. Now the car cranks easily even with a low battery.

(6) Roller Camshaft – a roller camshaft retrofitted into an older motor allows very high HP while maintaining a decent idle. I remember using a much much less aggressive cam 30 years ago that idled very rough and made a lot less HP.

i stole the idea for the export braces/monte carlo bar from somebody else on here but i am quite pleased with how they turned out, and it saved me about $150 doing it myself as opposed to buying them.
