I need a book or two to help me put my '68 coupe back together. What books are easy to understand and read on this subject?

Wolfpack - I've got a copy of Mustang Restoration Handbook by Don Taylor and Tom Wilson that I use in conjunction with a set of shop manuals. There's also another book called How to Restore Your Mustang by Larry Dobbs. I haven't read it, but it covers 64 1/2 to 68 Mustangs so it might be worth a look for your 68.

I've been using mainly online forums (this one for the most part), online pictures, and Ford Assembly Manuals when I have to reference exactly how small parts and sub-assemblies go together. I bought several restoration books, but truthfully I haven't used them all that much.

If you are replacing rusty metal, I would recommend the weld and sealant manual for your car. It has been invaluable to me for locating all those spot welds that need drilling out, then knowing where to place spot welds and seals as you put things back together. Cost is about $15 from any of the major parts catalogues.

i've used, shop manuals, AMK books,
reproduction Ford assembly manuals for the electrical, body, welding. 2 different books on restoring mustangs, other cars and pictures over the internet. most of the books are pretty useless, either the pictures are not clear enough on a subject, or the subject was deemed not important to the author but to you its critical. or the book diagrams are terrible. i found the most help was looking either at the reproduction ford factory manuals, or at another car or other internet sites where people had almost the same problem or question.

A forum like this is valuable since your pool of knowledge is higher, many members took pictures so thats helps too

Ironically, I sorted and cleaned my Mustang Reference shelves this weekend. Put all the loose articles in document protectors, put them in notebooks, and put their titles in Excel and made a table of contents.

Here are the big users:

Ford Shop Manual for each year

The Big Chilton's manuals, about 3" thick, bracketing the years I have. For example, for my 1970 Mach, I have a 1969, 1970 and 1975. Since the books have the original part numbers, and cover about 10 years each, I can find part numbers that fit the Mach, say on a 1974 Mercury.

Mustang Monthly, have a full set, all the way back to the first 2 issues that were not called Mustang Monthly, in binders (about 7 feet of shelf space)

Mustang Does It

Mustang Recognition Guide

How to Rebuilt your Ford Engine

Ford High Performance Parts Guide

and about 30 more books, etc., and scores of articles, links, etc.

I also have about 10 vendor catalogs for various pictures, etc.
