I have a 69 Mach 1 that is getting a complete rotisserie restoration. The car is an original 2 barrel meadow lark yellow Mach 1. I don't like the pale yellow so my thoughts are either Indian Fire Red restored to look very original in style (with a 408) or paint it like a 69 Boss 302 (black accents in the headlight buckets and rear tail light panel) with silver body. It would be like the one on the December cover of Mustang Monthly. When it's done, the car will be a high dollar show quality vehicle. Any thoughts? Thanks

I disagree. If you put together a nice 408W and modify this car tastefully with either color scheme you mention, you can easily (and probably) end up with a car valued higher than a meticulously restored original 2v Mach 1. And unless you're expecting to enter it in a non-modified class, you can definitely have a nice show-quality vehicle...and one that's much more fun to drive than an original 2v Mach.

I think either paint scheme you mention would look great. I've always liked that shade of red, as well as the blacked-out look of the Bosses.

Gosh, I am really drawn to the unusual colored Mustangs these days! Although I am not particularly fond of Meadowlark Yellow, that car parked next to a silver or even Indian Fire Red (or any red) Mustang will draw my attention. I don't think I've ever seen a restored Meadowlark Yellow Mach... I say, stick with the stock color and stand out in a crowd.

I would agree with the first few responses... you can change the color no problem. I am guessing the original engine was a 351W 2V? I think you can also upgrade the engine without issue... hell, with the right parts you can make it LOOK stock (even with the 4V carb) even thought it's sporting a few more cubes. You can make the car perform, change its color, and even some other tasteful mods and retain if not increase its value.

However... it is a Mach 1. I would leave it a Mach 1. Doing a Boss on a Mach 1... that's like giving Megan Fox plastic surgery and a make-over to make her look like Eva Longoria... what have you really gained?

My Mach 1 started life out as a meadowlark yellow car, when I restored it I painted it the 69 Boss yellow. I think it looks great. Just my 2 cents worth.

The silver and black looks nice, like the AirRide car, or Johnpro's 69. I wouldn't repaint a Mach 1 a pale yellow. I've always liked the Acapulco Blue on the 69s. When I first repainted my Mach 1, I stayed with the original Silver Jade b/c I liked it, but I did not stripe or flat black the hood. After a bit, I did black out the hood (and tailpanel, always liked that look), and then this year I added the stripes.
Stay on the 69 color chart and I think you will only ADD value getting away from the light yellow. It's not the right color for the most muscular mustang bodystyle of all time.

Jim,
I have a 69 Coupe that was originally Meadowlark Yellow & I hate the pale yellow color also, when the time comes to repaint it I am going to use the bright yellow from a newer Ford Ranger. Staying with the same color family (yellow) just going with a different hue/shade.

Thanks for the diverse opinions. What did I expect, right? Johnpro, what is the color you used? It looks awesome!
