This whole thread sounds like good ol' American-style discourse. I love that we get to do this in our country.

Now for the root of the matter. Is it okay to do it here ? Cloney is correct in that the subject at hand is politics. We are supposed to refrain from that subject. That "the other Bob" exercizes considerable forebearance in administering that policy does not relieve us from making some effort to adhere to it.

So, what to do ? For my part, I don't plan to initiate any politically-tinged posts. I might respond to some if I have something to say. Does that make me part of the "problem"?
Likely so..

My plan, and I solicit other volunteers to assist, is to be cool, stay off the soap box unless it's unavoidable. Leave politics where it belongs. Wherever that is..

Because we are a Capitalistic Democracy, I would like to point out that I'm currently standing on a Made In America soapbox. I think everyone should join me on top of my box and look down at everyone no on a soapbox......

Now, wasn't that fun?

What...there's a war going on? I'm boycotting the news...I figure you guys here on VMF will let me know when the war is over (or my boss will...since I am in the military)

I'm starting to get much more annoyed by people COMPLAINING about O/T posts than by the actual O/T posts.

AMEN, brother!

I have no problem with posting news and funny stuff. I do enjoy the jokes.

But there is no cause posting religion or politics because you will not easily convince someone to change their views. It only seems to infuriate others who do not share those views. Besides it can only cause me to hold someone in lower esteem if they post an idiotic opinion.

And why doesn't anyone pick on Scandinavians??? They get off scot free! Nobody ever says anything bad about them! Darn Herring Chokers!

Why do you say "scot free"? What's wrong with Scots????

You wouldn't go to the "Save the Whales" fourm and ask for a good whale meat reciepe..

Reminds me of a quote;
"Don't try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig."

Those "debateable" posts are another good reason to not have threads go to the top.
To be honest I don't really care if they are here. But I am willing to follow the rules as set by Bob, the OWNER of the site. He has final say .

If you stick to the topic it's not a problem...

Seriously, the O/T needs to go into it's own category ... it will still be here --- one click is all it would take to jump between. It would not disrupt the "community" at all, it would just allow the important issues to get addressed more easily.

Try it, you will like it.

gt350clone,
I agree with you on this one. Bob as made it clear that he would like us (the collective VMF) to avoid political and religious posts. I think it's great that people wish to express their support and I think that's why Bob has let these posts remain.

The VMF is like a family and most families can't discuss religion and/or politics without fighting! Just my $0.02.

BTW, there's never a VMF cop around when you need them! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Oh well, tried to post this as a suggestion, not a rant...

Like I told someone yesterday:

You can lead a horse to water...............................and then stand there and watch his a$$ drown.

There's a HUGE difference between "normal O/T stuff and political commentary. If you read pat's reply to the politics post below, you'll understand where this could go.

BTW, here's a great PM I received, for those who still don't get it.

You really think...... that bitching about off topic posts will get anywhere? Of course not, I learned that... you need to keep your mouth shut and just go with the flow...

Besides with the way things are going, in a year or two, this place will be run by off topic messages anyways... Once it starts, it will never stop. The lines will get pushed out farther and farther until most anything is allowed.

This is how it starts.... and we all know how it ends... total, absolute chaos.

I guess I'll go to the other board for a while and talk Mustangs - see you there Jay, et al.
