In the middle of converting from C4 to 4-Spd toploader. I need to clean the TL up and want to repaint.

Recommendations that I have researched indicate paint to cast iron grey. Paint brand closest to factory finish? Eastwood? Other brand recommendations?

Also, should I leave the bellhousing in it's natural aluminum finish?

TIA - John

Let us know what you decide. I purchased some of the Easrwood cast for brake parts. It's supposed to be impervious to many chemicals and heat. Havent tried it yet. I have read reviews saying it is too silver. I have thought of spraying my TL with it as well.

Factory finish was unpainted. My recommendation would be to clean it up with a wire brush, paint the top lid, and install. I don't know why anyone would want to install a TL that looks like it was painted all up. Thats me though.

They look good painted with a cast iron paint. Any will work, not much difference. some are a tad darker, some lighter, but not enough to make much difference. Leave the bellhousing aluminum.

I have been painting all my toploaders Ford Red for the past 30 years.

Ordered some Eastwood cast iron gray today. I'll post some before and after pics when I get it done.

Martin-Seymour (SP)? has a paint called "Cast Blast" that looks identical to raw cast iron. I even painted a set of headers with it and it never burned or flaked off. I think Amazon.com has it.

Here's the Eastwood on a 68 trans:

David,

Thank you for posting these pictures. This is exactly the look I want to achieve. :smile2:

And the point here is, you don't need to go to the trouble of buying Eastwood's paint, any of the cast paints will look basically the same.

The toploader in my pic was painted over 20 years ago. Cleared bare iron will not even look close to this . . . after less time than that.

Managed to get the top-loader cleaned up and painted last week. I thought that the Eastwood 2K paint went on quite well and also looks good. Hopefully will be able to mate it up to an engine soon assuming the machine shop gets done this week or next.
