Since the frame of as 66 Mustang whether it be an 8 or 6 Cylinder is basically the same, can the power steering linkage from an V8 be adapted to fit on a I6 simply by changing the tie rods to I6 tie rods and perhaps the pitman arm? It not, is there a way to adapt V8 power steering to work on an I6.

The Major difference is in the Tie Rods. The pin size is smaller on the 6 cylinder car than on the V8. Trying to fit the smaller 6 cylinder tie rods in the larger holes in the V8 spindles won't work. I've see spacers/bushing, weld attempts, etc, all failures, all unsafe cobbling to try and fit the 6 cylinder PS.

Yes, the Centerlinks are different, with the Tie Rods holes being different.

To change out the 6 cylinder to V8 Steering, Change it all Spindles to Pitman.

How about going the other way 8 Cylinder PS linkage to a 6 Cylinder car? Is it possible to use just the 6 cylinder outer tie rod for because the spindle hole is smaller and and everything else remain the 8 cylinder setup including the center link. When doing the Grenada Disc brake conversion the outer tie rod has to be the beefier Grenada tie rod. Wouldn't this work for the PS as well?

Rather than start a new post, I will keep this one alive. I have a 66 V8 car. It appears the power steering setup is from a I6. I purchased new Tie rods thinking the system was for a V8 only to find the tie rods are longer. Which I assume is because of the centerlink holes being located differently for a I6 setup. Can I just switch the centerlink to the V8 or are there other parts that need replaced? Can the I6 setup work with a V8 engine? I also just converted the frontend to stock power disc from manual drum. I was able to reuse the old spindles.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Good to go here.

Install the V8 Centerlink (You have the V8 Tie Rods, Pitman, Control valve).

You will need a V8 Idler as 6 cylinder, and V8 are Different lengths in the PS cars.

Then, you will insert the Control Valve internals in the V8 Integral centerlink.

I am somewhat concerned as it seems my V8 outer tie rods don't seem to fit very well in the spindle hole. The CSRP brake setup fits the spindle very well and the drums i took off were 5 lug. I am beginning to wonder if I have I6 spindles. Being that the new rotors fit good no play that I can tell and the drums were 5 lug has me scratching my head.

Bluntly is the only way to say this.

If your Drivers side outer is 336L, your Passengers side is 336R, you have C5DA Spindles. You Got a mess.

These are all correct numbers, and will fit PERFECT.

If they don't, you have a reemed spindle (For the Dam Granada Outers), or the supplier has miss boxed the Outers.

All the I-6 ps parts are completely different from V-8 ps parts.
The control valves are different also so you will need more than
just a V-8 centerlink.
The slave cylinder may be the same, that's all.

Unfortunately Borgeson wasn't any help when I called. The guys from Scott Drake were more helpful and told me to go with everything manual on the front to make things work. My hope is that it all fits together once the tie rod end sleeves and manual steering pitman arm come in. I'll definitely be posting pics on here with the final look of what's needed.

I had manual steering, I got my power steering except for the pump, because I had the correct for my car, Eaton pump already, off of a donor car I bought to keep it OEM. I still have my manual drag link and manual steering box that probably needs to be rebuilt. I did replace the left outer tie rod end to a PS tie rod to keep it MOOG. For my wife's 65 I6 200, I went with Chock for what I needed to change her car over to PS. He found a PS pump bracket that I bought for my wife's car on eBay because they're not made anymore and I sent him the old manual steering box as a core and bought a PS steering box. My wife wouldn't drive the car because it was manual steering. Now it's power and she enjoys driving it with the top down. The Borgeson setuo required cutting the steering column and I didn't want to do that.

Thanks. Long story short, I had to convert everything from original PS to everything going to manual steering to include center link, tie rod end, idle arm and pitman arm. It appears a complete manual steering set up will work with the borgeson PS gear box. I'll figure out how to post photos of the complete setup in Hope's that it helps someone else doing the same thing.
