Am I just being too anal?

Got my new Scott Drake dash bezel in yesterday. Found this one small blemish in one of the openings and I'm wondering if I should call the vendor for a swap. What would you do?

Yea, if I've got to point it out, I'm being too anal! LOL!!

I would contact the vender and return it. It's main reason for being replaced is appearance.

Slim

P.S.It jumped right out to me and I just have a driver!

You shouldn't have to settle for something you are not happy with.

You can also call Scott Drake directly and tell them about it,
they are a great company that is concerned with quality.
They are even a registered user on this forum and may well
see this post.

In this case, no. In some cases, yes. :D

I started feeling much better when I learned to let go of small things. A ding in the paint of the control arm isn't keeping me awake as much as it used to, and now I have time for other things I enjoy which are higher up on the list of life. Plus, none of your friends want to hear about it.

Send it back.... I ordered one along with pony door handles... and all the wood grain must had been applied by a drunk.. crooked and lifting up in corners.... Quality just isn't a factor when everything is chunked out in Chiner

I bought one over the counter at a local place here in town. They brought out one that was scratched. I told him to get me another. He asked if I was doing a show car or a driver. I said what difference does that make...get me another. We put the second one, which was perfect, next to the first one. I asked him if it were his money, which would he buy?

Send it back...you are obviously not happy.

Awesome

It's your money on your car... get it the way you want.

Well, if your anal then I'm super anal. I don' use any parts like that. I send them back if I can. I have a few hanging on the wall that the vendor wouldn't take back to remind me not to deal with them again. We already take to much crap from this industry which is why I will restore as much of the OEM parts as I can..

Send it back. If you accept low quality, they'll think they no longer have to maintain standards. You'll be doing all of us a favor.

Some seem to imply that the supplier or maker doesn't care. Let's be real. Even OEM parts when new (NOS service) aren't inspected before they go in the box.

On the production line the assembler is the final inspector.

If you or I buy a service part for our new Whatsit the part will be as good as the process.

By the way the plating process is very likely same whether done in Taiwan or Boston!

I'm pretty anal, so I can only see what looks like silver paint touchup on the lower chrome surround trim. There is also a small blurb blem in the chrome around the left opening. If its in the wood, yes, you're too anal.
If its the chrome places, absolutely send it back. The other stuff, you won't see it when you get in the car everyday. There will be paint nicks or scuffs or "orange peel" on your dash, or something else you may see first, plus the excitement of driving your car will override your closeup 6" inspection of one item today.

Oh man... I've just realized that I have really low standards. LOL!

The way I see it is that it'll only look perfect for like the first 100 miles or so and then all kinds of crap will happen that will make that little blemish look like like a grain of sand on the beach. Of course, I'm the kind of guy that just wants to drive the car as much as possible. Is the time and effort to complain and replace a part that most people won't notice worth the loss of driving time? I mean, large issues (like an entire section being the wrong shade or grain), but tiny little blemishes? Ugh..

Thats in a bad spot where you can easily see it, now if it was 180 degrees from
that it wouldn't be so bad, although still unacceptable.

OK, replacement on the way and I'm returning this one and will get a refund to include shipping. They had to charge the replacement to my CC for now. No big deal. I've seen some guys on Corral whine like a new baby about having to cover the cost until the return.

Photos are IMO wierd! Many times I can't get the lighting right to show someone defects that are obvious to my eye. I have fellow car enthusiasts in Denmark and Poland. Let's say they ask me to examine an OEM used part, tell them what I think. I send digital pics of a part highlighting a defect. It looks better in the pic than to my eye. Now we're talking maybe $50 shipping on a $20 part. For International buyer returning isn't always easy!
