Believe that "correct" leaves the carpet resting on top of firewall pad. It was easier to do on the assembly line. Have never agreed with that. Feel that tucked under leaves a more finished look as the carpet edge is not always straight.Besides, there is room to tuck it under.
In the latest MMonthly, the "correct" way, ITNSHO, was to install carpet as featured. They glued their carpet over Dynamat. And, they said under was correct. Anyway, it's something like the toilet paper install deal.
Over or Under??

The September issue of Mustang Monthly has an article starting on page 66 on how to
install a carpet in a mustang. There is a picture on page 71 that shows the carpet under
the firewall pad and suggests that "this is how your firewall pad and carpet should look,
which is exactly how the factory did it."

Hope this helps: John

Have you ever seen an original car with the carpet tucked under the carpet? I've seen many original cars with the carpet over the firewall pad and never seen one with the carpet under the firewall pad. The old "built on a Monday or Friday" argument is a crutch for someone who is looking for excuses for getting the details wrong.

If you're basing correctness on what's published in Mustang Monthly, be prepared to be disappointed.

Since we got into correct versus what we prefer maybe this sould be posted in the concours forum. Get the scoop from Laurie. Wonder if by chance that Sept MM article is wrong. Guess it's possible the carpet was precisely cut and fit so the top edge just tucked under the firewall pad. Hmmm...

My impression is MM is a magazine aimed at Mustang hobby/enthusiasts not necessarily "the Bible" for concours correctness information.

If I had a concours restored show car I can't imagine MM would be my source for how something "really was" !
