Rear leaf spring INPUT & opinions needed

Hi Gang!

I think I need to replace my rear leaf springs. When I really get on my car the front end lifts so high it feels like it's going to come off the ground. I think the rear end is squating too much.

Anyone with advice or experience on replacing their rear leaf springs with a higher quality after market pair I would appreciate hearing about them and where you got them.

ANY input is welcomed.

For details on my suspension, see it all here:

The phot below shows my Global West tublar front a-arms and 620 springs with KYB front shocks.

Thanks from

Doc,

I got my rear springs from American Pony (Canadian Mustang). As a matter of fact, I got my entire suspension from them. Everything installed perfectly, looks good and the prices seemed to be the best for what you get. Most of the suspension pieces are Moog.

Well...I couldn't find the exact information, but judging from the pics on your website you have 4 leaf springs. The best you can do without spending a pile of money is to upgrade to a stiffer 4.5 or 5 leaf spring.

There's always an 8.8 and coil over upgrade....

I used the 5-leaf "stock ride height" springs from American Pony on my 67 GT350, 73 vert, and (now sold) 71 Boss 351. I was very pleased with them. Rode well (not too stiff) but the 5-leaf springs resist axle windup better, thus reducing wheel hop. If your car has been lowered you may prefer the "mid-eye" springs which will provide a lower stance in the rear.

What is the ride height of your car?
I run mid eye 5 leafs from Mustangs plus which lowered the rear of the car about 1-1.5 from stock (hard to be exact since I removed a worn out pair of 4 leafs that were 40 yrs old or so.

Yes it does. It tells me you want 4.5 or 5 leaf mid eyes springs to maintian a similar ride hieght in the rear---which is reltaively important since you have underriders welded to your floor pans IIRC.

5 leaf standard hieght on the 65 coupe in my garage right now with 215 60 15 tires sits at 27.3 inches from the ground to the rear fender lip.

I won't have my 65 FB back until Sat so I can't measure it right now, but accoutning for the slightly heavier car and and the drop the mid eyes get you....it should sit close to were it is at now but have a firmer rear end.

Nick I'm running 225 60 15's on the rear of mine, so I agree that the mid-eye springs are probably what I should have to maintain my current ride height. I like it just like it is and wouldn't want it to change much if any.

So you got yours from Mustangs Plus? Right? Anything I should know in particular when ordering them?

Thanks so much for your input Nick.

I've got Canadian Mustang 5 leafs with their HD shackles on my car, no other rear suspension mods. They're a little stiff and require a stiffer shock. My rear shocks are SPAX adjusted 15 clicks in (out of 28). I didn't have any wheel hop at the drags, not even on my 1st 'burnout' run (18sec @ 88mph, LOL). The setup was good enough for a 12.8, eventually. :)

I lowered the Boss with 620s cut down in front (no Shelby drop) and M+ 4.5 leafs w/mid eye rear.
Here are the measurements (remember that the Boss weighs more than your car -- 3380 on the scales).

Front: fender lip to ground 25 1/2
Center Cap to lip 13 1/2

Rear: fender lip to ground 25 3/4
Center Cap to lip 13 13 3/4
Car now runs 225/60x15 yokos

Total cut from front spring =7/8 coil
Gabriel Adjustables set Hard.

Ground clearance with Hooker Super Comps = 3.75 inches at the collectors.
