So i just drove my 68 with t5 for the first time after install of t5 and new 355 lsd rear end rebuilt by myself. It was a little nerve racking but I made it home:thumbsup:.

The only issue is the t5 came with a pro 5.0 shifter, and It is really hard to find 1st and reverse. I have to push really hard almost with 2 hands. It shifts fine and clean once your through all gears alittle stiff going into 5th. Is there a linkage adjustment I can do. Or will it smooth out the more i drive it. Tranny was empty for yr I just filled it with plain jane atf and it seems to havce gotten better.

Are there shift stops on a pro 5.0 shifter? If so you may just have the stops adjusted incorrectly (too far in).

I have a car with a Pro 5.0 shifter and a car with a stock T-5 shifter. The Pro 5.0 is worlds better. It does have adjustable stops that need to be set. Mine finds all forward gears easily - much better than the stock unit. To get reverse I usually find it easier to shift into 4th first, then reverse.

What kind of fluid are you running in the T-5? Is it a World Class unit?

I like my T5 with stock shifter. I don't shift it hard, so no problems.

If the clutch friction disc rides the flywheel, it will make it difficult to find 1st and reverse.
Most the time this is due to the input spline shaft and clutch hub splines being dry and rough. If the splines are clean and new, just a really light "haze" of anti-seize will allow the disc to move away from the flywheel.
But be careful. anything more than a light haze can migrate out onto the friction disc surface, and ruin the disc.

As to the shifter, it will feel "notchy" and square gated initially. This seems to take about a week of daily driving to break in.
Once it's broken in, I don't think you will want to go back to a stock shifter. It's amazing how fast a good quality shifter works. I can just kick at the clutch pedal with the gas pedal mashed to the floor, and hit all the shifts. I could never do that with a stock shifter (granted I'm no John Force ). And I've not had a single problem with either of my T-5s since I switched.

We installed the PRO 5.0 in our Fox, and after a little tweaking it really does shift nice....positive and quick, rarely miss a shift....

I have a Steeda Tri-ax and it is far superior to the stock shifter.

I second what Lightning said. The shift rails are on top and it sounds like they are sticky. They get splashed by ATF slinging off the gears, upwards. They indeed do go dry when sitting a long time. I'd drive it more before I messed with anything.
Shifter type is a fairly personal preference but Pro 5.0's consistently top the lists of good ones. Stock shifters are soft, loose-feeling, and have no stops to prevent overshifts. There are any number of them in the scrap piles across the country, value about zero. (I probably have three laying around) Pro 5.0's go for about $180 and used ones are very rare.

thanks for all the help, I will double check the adjustments and drive in some more. I don't want to pull the tranny again, its been on and off and on an off....

The thing thats weird is when I first pulled out of the garage It was easy to go into reverse, now i almost have to take 2 hands to get the shifter to go over to the left to find it. Its not a going into gear issue its a side to side issue. I am haveing trouble getting the shifter to go all the way over each way.

I hope its a lube problem?

When I threw in my T5 last winter I thought it felt great all through the summer. Then I bought a car with a Tremec 3550 and didn't drive the one with the T5 for months. Now that the weather has gotten nice I've taken the T5 out for a spin and I hate the way the shifts feel compared to the 3550. Both cars have stock shifters. Anybody else have cars with both transmissions? Is the 3550 known to have a better feeling? I think I'll be looking into another shifter for the T5 in the future.

Also, I always shift into 5th first, then into reverse with the T5. It nearly guarantees finding the gear every time. With the 3550 I can go into reverse without an issue. If I try going straight into reverse with the T5 I almost always fail.
